IDNYC: Why You Need to Sign Up

The City of New York is offering a picture ID to all residents, regardless of citizenship. For vulnerable populations, aย government-issued identification card is a lifeline to opportunities and services guaranteed for citizens. But there is a reason forย U.S. citizens to get an IDNYC card. ย A famous story of resistance in World War II tells of how the King of Denmark declared that if Nazis compelled Danish Jews and Jewish refugees to wear a gold star, he and everyone in the country would. ย If everyone wore a star,ย Jews could not be separated out. ย It isย a powerful way for society to stand with and aidย at-risk groups.

The Jewish community of the Upper West Side are registering for IDNYC cards to ensure that cardholders cannot be categorized as persons who are not citizens or legal residents.

The JCC Manhattan will be signing people up from Monday June 5-Friday, June 9, and then Monday, June 12-Thursday, June 15, 10:00AM-6:00PM with a lunch break from 12:00PM-1:00PM. ย Registrations are necessaryย and can be made by calling 311 or www.nyc.gov/IDNYC.

Plus, there are a lot of really wonderful benefits to having an IDNYCย card, including free or discounted admission to museums and movie theaters. ย Learn more at registration.
