July e-advocacy

Our e-advocacy for July was motivated by the tragedy in Orlando. ย We are beyond words that a month later, we are facing a new slate of gun-related horrors.

Please click on this link to urge your Members of Congress to support two bills that will help prevent gun violence. Here is what you are supporting:

โ€ข The Fix Gun Checks Act of 2015 expands Brady Background Checks. When an individual wants to purchase a gun, the retailer must contact the
FBI to request a background check on the purchaser. The FBI uses the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (โ€œNICS”). If the purchaser is a felon, fugitive, domestic abuser or dangerously mentally ill person, the sale is blocked. This bill expands the Brady Background Check requirement to internet and gun show sales. This 40% market share of the gun sales is currently exempt from the background check requirement! This bill also improves the reporting of prohibited purchasers to NICS and requires gun owners to report lost or stolen firearms within 48 hours.

โ€ข The Background Check Completion Act of 2015 prohibits a licensed gun dealer from selling a firearm before the background check is completed.

Our tradition values life. We are commanded in Leviticus 19:16, โ€œdo not stand idly by while your neighborโ€™s blood is shed.โ€ You are one click away from making our world a bit safer by reducing potential murders and mass shootings.
